Fuel filler pipe blocked?
S40 1997 2.0l CD Auto
I tried to refuel at Tesco this PM but found I could not get the nozzle from the petrol pump to go more than a couple of inched into the fuel filler pipe on my car. I had a look down the pipe and it seemed to be blocked with some kind of white plastic apparatus. I spoke to the guy at the counter and was told that they were having problems with that particular pump but I should be able to use one of the others. There were no others available at the time so I went to Sainsburys and refueled with no bother. Anybody ever come across this before? |

not sure on the volvos , but some car makers include a anti petrol theft type thingy in the pipe ... so it may come from a manufacturer or someone who owned the car befor you may have put it there to stop fuel theft ....thats my guess .
cheers

just reread , and know am not sure , do you mean in the actual petrol pump nozzel or in the filler pipe of your car ? .....if it was in the pump pipe it may be a anti spark/static arrestor.......

Petrol pump nozzle - the curved metal pipe which is attached to the rubber hose which is attached to the petrol pump. Am I using the wrong term here?
I could not insert this nozzle into the car more that a couple of inches. At first I thought I had mixed up the hoses and that I was trying to put diesel in the car. I double checked but this was not the case. I remember from a number of years ago that the diameter of the nozzles for leaded and unleaded fuel was different so that people did not accidentally top up with leaded petrol in an unleaded car. I think the nozzle for unleaded was narrower. I am totally mystified as to why I couldn't insert the nozzle at Tesco and yet I had no problem at Sainsburys. I have never peered down the filling pipe on my car before so maybe the white plastic thing is normal for all S40's? |

Ive come across something similar on my company car (Skoda Super), the nozzle sems a faf to go in a decent way in, then a right chew to get the thing out again. Seems to be some sort of ribs on the nozzle catching the filler hole.
