Default External Mic Installation & Placement

Think I have finally decided on my stereo so wondered what people had done about external microphones and where they put them.

Run the cable for the mic up the "A" pillar on the drivers side of the car, the cable can be easily hidden under the trim panel, take care removing the trim though as there might be an airbag under it - There was on my wife's V40 MY2001 when I installed a handsfree kit last year! - Mike

Was it an easy job? Where did you place the mic in the end?

I had a blank pushbutton on the centre section of the dash, where the DSA usually goes.

I drilled a hole on the blank, fed the cable through from the front and pushed the mic into place.

Looks OEM and works really well.

Here is a photo I took when it was installed.

Sorry it is a bit shakey!

No problem at all.

Make it a tight fit and there will be no chance of any rattle, or it falling out again.

I have attached a better photo of the completed job.

i just installed a similar radio unit in my v40.
i prefer the external micro instead the one in the unit.
i placed mine on top of the steering wheel column.
tryd it while driving with open window and works perfect.
used some black douple sided tape for it.
