Default power steering pump

hi noticed when cold my steering is a bit heavy.ive had to fill up res on power steering.i take it the pump is in the housing above the alternater.if it is it seems to be weeping oil from the top pully slightly.anybody know if this sounds right or is the motor located elsewhere on a 2006 xc90 diesel se

You are correct. The power steering is driven by the alternator belt via a pulley.
My 05 had a spring failure on the pulley as well as requiring a new pump. Very similar failure to your description.

My previous XC90 2005 had a slight leak around the power steering pump (top pulley) - was told nothing to worry about by an Indie so I didn't. Never needed to top up the fluid.

Default steering pump xc90

[2009 xc90 active premium geartronic]
Hi, we have recently noticed a wheezing/whistle type noise coming from the front when driving. having stopped and had a listen under the bonnet could hear it by the auxillary belts and upon closer examination could see oil seeping from the steering pump pulley which had been also spraying inside the belt housing. Car went in for service today and they agreed that the steering pump bearing has a leak and will replace it under warranty [phew] !.
hopefully that will cure the wheezy noise.
