Default 1991 440 gle i auto no power wont rev over 3000rpm

Hope someone out there can help.I have a 440 gle i automatic. the problem is that the engine wont rev over 3000rpm in P and N and when out on the road the fastest i can get is 30mph but it takes a while there is no go in it and on hills a run up is best. when it does rev over in P or N it has gone to 5000rpm but most of the time it will only go to 4000rpm but the revs soon dorp off with my foot to the floor and it sounds like a old carbed engine would with the choke on. It starts fine both hot and cold.and tick over is fine to. It also pulls off ok but once the revs climb all go has gone. I think the engine is the b18fp tit has the mulit point injection system with lamda. I have change ignition leads and dist cap.
I would be very greatfull for and help

changed fuel fillter today but no improvement but speaking to someone today it may be the cat blocked and there is a hissing sound coming from that area when the revs drop off so have to play with that tomorrow. thankyou for your reply

Not sure Exhaust fitters did the job and i left car with them, when i asked they didn't know but i would guess it was either bits from the cat or the baffeles in the back box had calapsed hopefuly it was the back box as i done fancy buying a new cat for mot. But she is running like a little train now.
