Default Heater blower not working, switch or resistor?

Hey guys

My ex-plod 2005 V70 has a problem with the heater fan, someone has bypassed the round speed knob with an on/off switch. I would like to get it working again but can't make my mind up if it's the switch or the rheostat/resistor, does anyone know where the resistor is, is it built into the switch? is there a way to test it?

Looks like this one

Thanks in advance
