Default XC60 - residual value

Hello all - I currently have an XC90, a perfect beast of a private car. However, I'm moving towards a company car and on CO2 value alone this make the XC60 the ideal candidate.

I'm torn between purchasing (via my limited company) or leasing through Volvo Car Leasing on a business scheme. The XC60 seems to have a 3 year value of 40-45%, but in looking at 'real world' used car values this seems closer to 60%.

Current residuals are of course excellent news for owners, and this is putting me off the leasing route as the costs could (v 60% residual) be significantly higher than buying the car outright and selling in 3 years. Especially when Drivethedeal discount is taken into account.

I would really appreciate if anyone can offer their experience of 'real world' residual values?

Thank you.
Michael

Thanks - my search missed that one!

My comparison spreadsheet is getting out of hand - with the current strong residuals I've got to go down the purchase route. The problem is the residual calculators (eg. What Car depreciation calculator) do not seem to reflect the current strong prices of 2nd hand XC60s.

Now local dealer with discount, drive the deal or autoebid...hmmmm....

I suggest it may be worth investing in a subscription to Which? on line (you can get a 30 day trial free) if you are not already a member, as they have access to CAP values for members which seem a much more accurate way to go

Hi Michael,

The CAP guide lists a 2009(09) Volvo XC60 SE Lux D5 manual with 30,000 miles at £19000 in average condition for part exchange. This represents a 62% residual on new if paying full list

However this residual is likely to weaken now the car is three years old and due a facelift in the next 18 months.

All the best

Louis

I wouldn't your breath waiting for a face lift - the XC90 has been getting a face lift for more years than I care to remember and getting replaced 'next year' for the past 4 years yet it is essentially still the same car as it has always been. Volvo have a history of sweating a winning design - look at the D5 and ask yourself when that should have been replaced, given that Audi, BMW and Mercedes (even Puegot and Ford) can all get much better MPG with similar power engines

The XC90 has had more facelifts than Joan Collins, its the all new car the XC90 is waiting for.

The XC60 will certainly have a facelift in the next 18 months.

Using you argument of XC90 face lifts then XC60 has already had 2 face lifts and that hasn't affected the residual value, therefore why should your face lift in 18 months affect the future residual?

Default Dead Right

In my humble opinion they will be making a mistake if they alter the XC60 too much as by some great fluke they have probably the best looking mid range SUV on the market today,”it looks dead right”
