The autobox is designed to go in to neutral when stationary with the footbrake applied, try using the handbrake instead and it won't drop out of gear.
There is a software update available from Volvo to disable the auto neutral feature, but it's cheaper to use the handbrake.

I would also start with checking the fluid level, do this after a run of twenty or thirty miles with the engine still running using the hot side of the yellow dipstick, if it needs fluid make sure you use the correct grade oil (JWS3309) as the wrong type of auto fluid in these boxes will ruin them - Mike
