Default S80 Automatic Transmission Oil Temperature.

Does anyone know what the correct normal running temperature of the oil in a auto gearbox. I have checked mine today after a 30 min. Drive and it recorded 62 deg. C.

This temperature is bang on normal for the conditions.

Oil level measurement specifies (using VIDA) a temperature of around 80C for the 5 speed and around 60C for the 6 speed. This data is specified in the Haynes manual for the V70 though, not directly from VIDA.

Smile Thanks for your input peteB1

That's good news for me. The gearbox runs fine and if the oil temp. Is ok it can only be a sensor problem or a computer glitch perhaps. The warning message which started me down the road has disappeared so I am not going to worry any more but it did give me a few sleepless nights. Thanks again. Mike.

From memory if you have a warning message on the dash, this refers to the reaching of acceptable length of time the car gearbox has run at a certain temperature and indicates auto fluid needs changing. Likely to happen if the car has been used for towing etc. Its filled for life unless it runs hot for a certain time, is the theory, and the car will let you know.
