Default Shockers.

Hi, back again. As I mentioned on a previous thread I have "Konis" fitted on my 144. There when I acquired the car. They give a very harsh ride but hold the road quite well and I am thinking about replacing them. I have been quoted for Bilsteins about £600+ My question is what is the ride and road holding like with standard shocks, available from Brookhouse at a fraction of the price? I don't throw the car around. What other options are there.

Bilstein shocks are very good but can be a bit harder than standard. Konis are very good too but have the advantage that you can adjust them through a useful range. Unfortunately you do have to take them off to do it. Until you know what they are set to now you won't be able to judge how much adjustment you can do in either direction to harder or softer. The person who fitted them originally obviously had his own ideas as to how he thought they should be set. The rears are easy to get at and after you've got used to the adjustment method you might be able to do it by just dropping the lower end. As you tow a lot you might have to compromise a bit unless you want to re adjust for long towing trips.
If you can find a setting that suits you its cost you time rather than £600.
I think that the adjustment for the Volvo shocks is the 3rd method on this link.

The Konis are adjustable, have you looked what they're set at?

Thanks. I'll do it when I fit the new wishbone bushes.
