2001 1.8 petrol V40 juddering engine
Hi,
I've had my car a couple of months and it has a problem which seems to be especially prevalent in hot weather. When I 1st start it up often the engine will be 'lumpy', almost cutting out or idling at around 1500rpm and has very little power making the car almost undriveable, I can get rid of this problem either by just leaving it for a while or absolutely revving the heck out of it. Once it's gone it usually doesn't come back till I switch off and restart. Maybe it's just me, but even once it's driveable the car still feels quite underpowered. The exhaust is standard and is in good nick but sounds like a sports one, is this normal? I'm only managing about 250-300 miles to a full tank. There's no engine management lights on. Any ideas would be much appreciated. |

ICV may need a goodly cleaning
is its a Volvo 1.8 engine > if so check the "VVT" threads on here just incase. Check the mounts for the heat shields for the exhaust manifold etc in the engine bay check the exhaust itself underneath for loose baffles in the center box, or horror of horrors a failing/falling appart cat (internals loose n rattling) Will also pay you to replace plugs with GEN volvo ones new oil ,,oil filter and air filter while your at it (gen parts are cheap for these,, plugs n oil filter about £20 posted for BOTH ,,£15ish for the airfilter ,,or was that pollen one,,cant remember)
