Valuation Request
I hope it's OK to request valuations here. We're thinking of selling our 740 later this year to make way for an 850.
Details: 1988 (F) 740 GLE, Dark metallic gray, black leather interior. I've owned it for 2 years. It was previously owned by a guy who tows cars away in Edinburgh (his father shamed him by telling us exactly what his "truck driving" was). He had it serviced by the police. Previous owner to that was his brother. Other owners unknown. 179,000 miles (I have no reason to doubt that this is genuine) Manual gearbox with overdrive. B230E engine. Bodywork is reasonable. A few stone chips and scratches aquired due to street parking. Worst scratch is a hair-width 9" scratch on drivers door. Dent on offside rear door at the bottom (why do so many 740's have this same dent?) Interior is tidy and clean. Electric black leather drivers seat added (from 760?) Voltage gauge from GLT added. Working heated seats and fuel gauge. Known faults: sunroof slides but sticks when tilted fully. Work carried out since I've owned it: 4 New tyres (Barum) (~172k) New clutch (175k) Propshaft rebuilt (178k) Front wing professionally resprayed since it was looking tatty. Timing Belt at (170k) Oil changed, new filters etc. at 170k and 175k Other work: Brakes discs and pads ~166k I have receipts for all of the above. MOT carried out in March 2004 showed no work recommended for the next year. Emissions < 1%. Taxed until March 2004. Sony front loading CD player and pionner / kenwood speakers inc. MOT certificates for 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003. These suggest that the mileage is correct. Small forest of magic trees would be included at request :) Many thanks, Graeme |

RE: Valuation Request
From what you have told us Graeme, you should expect no more than £500 realistically. However there is nothing stopping you from asking what you think would be a fair price provided you are willing to accept a lower offer. I suggested to a guy the other week that he advertised his car at £1250 or near offer and be prepared to suffer a few offers well below this. However the car is worth what a buyer is prepared to pay. Good luck with the sale. All the best, Peter |

RE: Valuation Request
Thanks for your help Peter, that was roughly what I was was thinking. We bought it for a really good price so as long as we get that I'll be happy :)
Cheers Graeme |
