One final point is that the worst offenders in the ultra long wet braking distance tables, do take a pasting in the press or the garages decide not to stock them due to agro from the public and insurance agents. That often results in the importer getting stuck with tyres he can't sell through a normal tire shop and then they either flog them to very small garages who do not care if they sell dangerous rubbish or they turn up on e bay. Some of the tires I have seen for sale as new on e bay are in fact several years old and were from such a brand that could not be sold any other way.
When you see new tyres for sale from an e bay dealer that have a name that you don't recognise and are very cheap, there is often a very good reason why they are cheap and it is always worth checking the company and brand names in Google to find out just how bad they are if the motoring press don't list them. Typical wet braking performance: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...erformance.htm http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...erformance.htm TIGAR TYRE REVIEWS (Imported from Russia?) Listed on the which magazine don't buy list: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/po...ex.htm?t=61533 TG 621 ADAC Motorwelt - Mar 2008 Comparative Strengths - price, rolling resistance, wear Comparative Weaknesses - wet performance, noise Winter 1 ADAC Motorwelt - Oct 2008 Comparative Strengths - rolling resistance, price Comparative Weaknesses - dry performance in particular but also performance on ice and in the wet I have to laugh about that last line, as it seems their winter tyres are only safe in the snow. With these new tyre label's from Novemeber, it would be great if insurance company's could take into account what rating of tyre were fitted to the vehicle. .

It would be too complicated to issue car insurance policies that include tyre performance data, BUT all garages and tyre shops selling rubish tyres have to have business indemnity insurance, in case they are liable for fitting a tyre incorrectly etc.
The insurance companies in Germany did threaten to cancel some indemnity cover policies for the garages and tyre centres last year and they did cause most of them to stop selling certain makes or types, but it would be easier if there was a government watch dog pointing the finger |

I say, "buyer beware". Buy the best you can and if you can only buy poor quality tyres, adjust your driving to suit the reduced grip, or handling levels. Gary
