2008 V70 Rear Suspension Bushes
Rattle and knocking recently started at rear of my 58K miles 2008 V70 2.4D Lux. Dealer says rear bushes badly worn/collapsed and recommends replacement of both at a cost of approx £900. Dealer says has tried before to get Volvo to contribute towards costs given other customers with same problem on "low" mileage cars outside warranty, but Volvo have declined to help. Anyone experienced similar problems with their MY2008 V70 and have they secured free replacement or assistance with costs. Is this a known issue (premature failure) and was it a recall issue.

Hi,
Yes, could be part of the common fault of the rear upper sub frame mounts. These were troublesome and still are, even on new 2012 vehicles it appears. Common symptoms included creaking and knocking noises. Search this forum for these and you'll find more details. For information, this does happen on other cars - Renault Lagunas were know for it too. Steve |

I have seen the bushes (rubber with a "T" piece shaped bracket sandwiched in between) for sale on Ebay described as OE equipment. I was told by my local Volvo dealer that you had to buy whole arm if the Longitudinal Stay bush became worn. Is it possible however to just replace the bush?
I still interested in getting the thoughts of "elder statesmen" on this site, or current or ex Volvo mechanics, and their opinions on the lifespan of this particular bush. 58k seems very short, given my experience with my 120k mk2 V70, which has never had any rear bushes changed in 12 years, 7 of which were towing a caravan! |
