Default XC60 Running Boards, Styling Pack2

Has anyone ordered the XC60 and the Styling Packs? About to (hopefully) get round to visiting some dealers this weekend. When checking out the options, the missus dimissed the panoramic glass roof and said she rather have the running boards. I looked at the Styling Pack 2 for this and its around 1100+ GBP for the pack to be fitted which is similar to the cost of the panoramic roof.

To be honest, I'm not much taken for the front bumper bars - it looks like a silver stick on bit and does nothing for the looks at the front as the number plate will cover most of it. The rear skid plate looks better but I'm not too bothered so thought I might just order the running boards and get those only as they seem to cost 500 + fitting. How easy is it to fit? Does it require drilling or is it simply screws/allen bolts?

I have Styling Pack 1. I paid "only" £600 something as Volvo has a deal going, or at least did.

Pictures in the "Showroom" section "XC60 SE Lux" etc....

Depends on what colour of XC60 you are going to get.

I have the Metalic Silver and the front bumper/rear skid plate looks ok.
I also have the running boards which certainly improves the looks.
One downside, even at a height of 6ft 2ins, I always manage to get the back of my trousers dirty, when getting out of the XC60.

Quote from Italian friend:- "The running boards look like piano key boards".

Whilst speaking to one dealer about the running boards, he said that the boards aren't a self fit and he thinks it requires about 3 hours to fit. This was down to the rear doors being taken out to get these fitted properly. At around 90 GBP per hour labour, the boards would cost about 270 to fit!

Not sure how much of this is true or not.

Pretty much decided that we need running boards as my two small girls likes them and would need them to help them up after test driving one with the styling pack 2. But don't think I get the rest as personally after having a look - it doesn't really make a difference to the look of the car enough for me to pa it.

There are fitting instructions for the running boards (and pretty much every other XC60/XC90 accessory) in PDF format here. Fitting running boards does require the removal of the rear doors from the XC60, which looks like a 2-person job, and also calls for a specialised tool (reference 9512872): see steps 4/5 and 16 respectively.

Having looked at the running boards on an XC60 in the showroom when I was ordering mine, they just look like an effective way of transferring mud onto your trousers whenever you get into or out of the car.

Hi,
Bought our with running boards already fitted - however, as the car does a fair amount of off-road work with a horse box, the Wife has insisted they were removed, so managed to do an exchange for the scuff plates.
There was no way you can get either in or out without getting dirt transferred to the back of your legs.

Whilst the styling packs do make the car look a little different and certainly in my view enhance the already good looks further, they are of limited practical use. Styling pack 2 includes so called running boards that favour form over function - they taper towards the front, are inside the door curvature and are of no use in loading a roof box or bike rack - this is based on actual experience. Your trousers will also get filthy when exiting the car. The glass sunroof on the other hand introduces fabulous light into the cabin and natural, fresh if somewhat noisy air when fully open.

If you want a slightly individual look to the front, consider the chrome air intake surround and R-Design trim where the fog lights used to be - and they are much cheaper than the styling packs. Both can be found at evolve

I love my panoramic roof. I open it at every opportunity.

I had running boards on my XC90 and they looked good and helped the grandchildren to get in and out easier, but they certainly caused a lot of dirty trouser legs, and one or two scraped shins .

Haven't got them on the XC60.
