The speakers are riveted to the doors so you'll need to drill them out to change.
I just drilled new holes for the replacement. Best thing you can do is buy a decent set of front and rear speakers that arent too powerful. Factory woofers are made of paper so you'll get much better bass from some decent ugrade coaxil speakers. Don't go for anything with huge power rating, as the standard volvo stereo is not very powerful. From what I recall the size is 16.5cm in the front. Not sure about the rear. For extra clarity, you could hook a pair of tweeters up to the un-used tweeter wiring behind the rear door cards. The cables are there but simply clipped to the door card because there are no rear tweeters fitted for the 'Performance' spec stereo. Last edited by fenton_jd; Aug 30th, 2012 at 10:04. |

Hopefully it is that straight forward - Ive just read on another site that you have to match the original speaker impedance with the replacement ones. Maxwells Law - whatever that is -basically lower speaker impedance = amp needs to produce more power. Therefore if you replace the standard speakers with ones of too low impedance, then you can blow the already low power amp in the Performance Audio - kind of makes sense really. Anyone know what the original speaker impedance is. Most aftermarket ones are about 4 ohms. I really dont want to have to start chucking an aftermarket amp in there if I can help it, I dont think the sound is bad, just want to clean it up a bit.

Where would you then fit the tweeters in the rear please or do they sit behind the door cards?

There are other posts referring to fitting tweeters in the rear doors. Apparently the looms are there, all you need is to plug and play.

Just read a post on an American site. They also concur that all the wiring is in the rear doors for the tweeters it's just a case of removing the panel and connecting the tweeters up. According to those across the pond who have done this mod it really brings the performance base system alive.
