Question 08 v50 Single CD Player > 6 CD Player Upgrade - Possible?

Hi,

Last September I brought an 08 reg 1.8S v50 from a dealership in Swindon.

It came with a single CD player in the 'floating' dash. I have quite a large CD collection I like to listen to when driving, and found swapping CDs annoying (previous car had a 6 CD changer in), so I purchased a proper volvo v50 6 CD Player/Changer head unit off eBay.

The 6 CD unit itself fits in the floating dash, replacing the single CD player unit without any problems. However I read somewhere - possibly this forum before I brought the unit - that it will need to be coded to the car. So I have gone back to the dealership, and asked them if thay can fit the the 6 CD changer, and code it. However, they have come back and said it's not possible, because they need both the car the unit is being fitted to, and weirdly, the car the unit came from, as they need to remove the software the the old car, so they can install it in the new car.

Obviously this won't be possible, as it came from eBay! Has anyone else heard of this? Does this sound correct? Why can't the unit just be coded to the car?

Any help, or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Ben

Basically you are stuffed. I suggest you return that unit for a refund. Scrapper units are only good for spare parts if your original one goes wrong, otherwise they are just paper weights.

Absolutely correct. There is an override possibility. This includes removing the MOST security.

This is possible (Difficult, but possible as it requires removing parts from your old one and putting them on the 6 cd changer) have a little google and you will find some joy.

Its probably easier to get some kind of ipod / mp3 integration and purchase or use an ipod / mp3 player / usb, i'm sure the 08 onwards have ipod/usb compatibility.

Firstly the system software and display changed when 2008 models came out so even if it were possible ( which it is not ) your used 6 cd would not work if it was from a 2007 or earlier car .

Volvo do a 6 CD upgrade which will play MP3 CD's , you can get about 200
MP3 songs on a MP3 data CD .. X 6
BUT You will have to have the factory fitted High Performance OR Premium sound system .. ( the ones with an amplifier in the left rear side )
