Default Brink detachable toball (which doesn't)

Has anyone experienced the problem of the "sliding bolt" in the end of the detachable towball not retracting enough to allow the towball to be removed?
I push the locking part on the side of the towball which theroeticaly withdraws the "bolt" and allows the towball to be removed. The only way I can do this is to get someone to push the lock and for me to get under the car and push the bolt back with a screwdriver or such....when I do have it detached the "bolt" does retract but I'm unsure if its going back far enough.. how far should it go?

sorry for the vauge descriptions of the moving parts but anyone who has one of these I'm sure would understand

But any ideas of how to solve it ?

mine did this....spray it with WD40 or GT85 or similar....usually its just a bit stiff so lean on it on the floor and turn the knob as thats usually 180 degrees out if it the bar wont retract and is away from the mount..

It goes back into the main body of the bar....though has probably 2-3mm sticking out, this is fully retracted though and mine works fine now...just needed a bit of encouragement !

Hmm mine only retract a few mm certainaly not all the way back...I'll have another go at it but I may just leave it on the car and be done with it ! protects the back from folks getting too close anyway.

Is it not off the car then ? If not you need to rotate the knob with the key in the unlock position usually rotation is away from you - clockwise side on - and then with some force it'll just drop out...give it some more WD and a bit more lean on...am sure it'll free up !

It's now on the car, I have had it remeoved and can do so with the struggle as I mentioned
However its not the type as you describe with a rotating knob. I'm guessing its an earlier type with a chrome lever on the side and from what I googled It should have a lock to stop theft. No doubt same principle just works differently

They all have the same standard principle, with a drop in lock...without a picture I was second guessing and telling you what I have done with mine....

I'm sure its the exact same system principal but they just updated the locking/release mechanism
