Swap a working relay e.g. the one on the brake lights, and use this to see if reversing lights work. If reversing lights not working with swapped relay then problem elsewhere like in the switch.

Default Fixed!!

Well after much faf, the car is sorted.

It turned out to be a broken wire from the switch to the CEM. A pain in the butt to get to though. I thought i would look at the cars previous repair history in detail if it had any clues and last year it had a clutch....mmm, maybe thewire was not disconnected when they dropped the box?

anyway, I did try to replace the relay in the back and damaged it, so the donor REM was carefully unsoldered at 220deg (The relay has a survivable limit of 260deg for 10 seconds ish) then resoldered the donor relay onto the board.

It just goes to show that you hunt and hunt for the easy fixes first before assuming REM death. In the end what it actually cost me was a crimp worth a few pence!

However i really did learn alot about the electronic side of my new S60 and thanks to you all for your help along the way! If anyone needs any REM spare parts, just yell!!
