Default anti skid service required

I have a s40 57 plate that is showing anti skid service required. Just taken it into volvo dealer, did check and tell me that the brake control module needs replacing at a cost to me of £450 plus vat with volvo paying the other 50% I read in this forum that volvo are admitting to a fault-does anyone have any proof of this they can forward to me, enabling me to approach volvo for 100% payment.

From 2003 to date, the VOSA website reports that there have been five recalls for various S40 models; the chassis number dictates whether a given car is affected by any of those. Unfortunately, none of them relate to ABS or brake control modules - they were related to the rake master cylinder, the vacuum pressure pump and possible vacuum leaks in the brake booster system caused by chafed hosing.

Unless a recall is on the cards, or Volvo UK have made it known that they will replace the module out of goodwill, then you may have to settle for the partial "goodwill" contribution.

£540 including VAT is a lot of money to most of us, so even if this forum doesn't give you the proof you desire, I'd say it's still worth a bit of pestering first; if you do find somebody who's had theirs replaced F.O.C. then that would obviously be a very useful precedent to have been set!

Maybe the dealer will contribute on top of what Volvo are paying, on the understanding that you book your next service with them or whatever?
Email Volvo UK customer service and express your frustration at having bought a car built by a marque with a reputation for high safety standards, only to discover that there is a potentially dangerous problem with the braking system. If you're feeling particularly militant (and you have a bit of time to play with), you could suggest to them that you'll contact WhatCar or Watchdog or similar if the situation cannot be resolved to your satisfaction.

Good luck
