Default 1997 V70 CD auto - gauging interest

It's possible I'll have a chance within the near future of a newer car to replace my old V70 - not definite yet, but more than likely. I'd be interested to know what the feeling is on the value of my old V70, and the best way to sell it.

It's a 1997 V70 CD 2.5 10v auto. Mileage is just short of 280,000 - although by the time this is sorted out it'll be a bit higher.

The car is silver with an off-black leather interior. Overall the car is in excellent condition, with good tyres, and a relatively recent exhaust centre and rear section.

MoT is to Sept 2013, and tax to end of April 2013.

I'm the third owner. The car was first registered to Volvo in March 97, then to a private owner in December 1997. I bought it at 53,000 miles from Volvo dealer Harratts of Wakefield in April 2005. It has a complete documented service history, with receipts and service records from new.

I had the car converted to run on LPG in May 2005 by Autogas 2000 in Thirsk.

The aircon doesn't blow cold any more, and the car has picked up a few minor squeaks and rattles along the way, but is smooth and comfortable.

There seems to be a problem with the LPG system in that the engine management light will randomly come on. Fault code is 221. This ONLY happens when running on LPG. The car runs perfectly on petrol with no trouble at all. A new LPG regulator has been fitted, and the injector solenoids replaced, and while this cured a rough-running problem on LPG, the EML still lights up at times, and I don't know why. I think the car may possibly need a new O2 sensor as the current one was fitted at 140,000 miles, but as I say, on petrol, the EML stays off!

That said, the car still looks good, still starts first time every time, still returns in the mid-30's on petrol if driven sensibly. The autobox works fine. The seats and interior are in very good condition.

At the last MoT the headlight brightness was advised as being legal but reduced.

Details of just about everything the car has ever had done have been the subject of posts on here!

If this does work out then the car would be for sale at some stage within the next couple of months.

The attached photo was taken earlier this year.

So, any ideas as to value and the best way to sell? I'd hate to think that it ended up at the scrap yard just yet!

Cheers

Jack

Im looking around at the mo. Since my 850 needs a fair bit of work for its mot in march and between 400 to 600 seems the average for it. Hope that doesn't offend ya but that's what I've found on eBay.

I may be looking to change my t5 soon since I now live near redcar and work near helmsley and need something that's more mpg than bhp lol. Unfortunately I don't have the money now but if I do if you decide to sell I'd be interested in having a look at yours

Cheers mate. If I do decide to change and got that sort of money I'd be delighted to be honest!

Any car, even a V70, with almost 300,000 up can only be worth what someone will pay. The good news for me is that there would be some interest. I'd half expected the response to be 'forget it, break it for bits or scrap it'. That would be a shame because the car runs fine on petrol, and if someone is prepared to spend a bit of time, it'd probably be fixable on LPG too.

Bodywork and interior is in superb order, and apart from the LPG and the aircon, the car is mechanically fine too.

It'll be into the New Year before I'll know for sure, and if it is to go then I'll put it on here first.

Cheers

Jack

I'll keep my eyes open. I'm not rushing things myself. Currently looking at cost to fix for its mot and really learn to drive economicly but playing with the idea of changing to lpg or diesel. Depends what's about Feb tbh since the mot runs out in march
