Default Which brake fluid ?

Hi all,

Answer's in the question really. I know there are those that will say use gen Volvo and if I could get to my dealers I would however its 30 miles away.

I know it's DOT 4 however is all DOT 4 the same ? Yes I know it meets the same spec requirements ( min at least ) but are there better brands than others ?
I checked my fluid yesterday and it was down to 'min'. It was last replaced by Volvo 21 mths ago on its 2nd service ( Volvo recommend every two years evidentially ) and this got me thinking

IS brake fluid like oil ? Fully synthetic is fully synthetic right ? Yet we always ( well sometimes ) mock Halfords own over Castrol, or Millers over Shell, you know the point I'm making. So what the score folks ? Your views,,,,

Merry Xmas folks

At this stage never mind topping up the fluid, check the pads. That brake fluid has gone some where.

Salut!

Any DOT4 fluid from a reputable source halfords included will be fine... as pookie says have a look at your pads, DOT4 is mineral based the only synthetic fluid is DOT5.1.. do not mix

Cheers,

Have checked the pads and there fine. Thinking on this is poss the first time I've ever had to top up brake fluid in years. I can't see any obvious signs of leaking. It went in for that master cylinder replacement earlier this year at Volvo. I wonder whether they forgot to top it up afterwards ?
