Ah Mr wooble you are the second person I know that has the antilock brake setup fitted.Folks keep telling me they never fitted it to the 240 Lol.
Mine is a K reg.It has one or two other little differences as well.Like the location of the fuel pump relay? The wiring looks different as well as in colour.Torq screws and bolts all over the place.Different interior lights too.Small tweeter in rear door panel(pic 1)
Mine is the potential saver which I bought for very little money.
Regards Brian.

Yep, that all looks like mine, it always seemed a bit strange that Volvo would invest so much in making a fair few changes to the 240 for the 1993 model year when it was going out of production the next year! Heated mirrors, ABS, wiring changes, a new dashboard without the centre speaker aperture, rear door tweeters, new internal lights, a few bits of plastic trim subtly changed, The rear axle was slightly changed (one axle shaft is slightly shorter) to enable the fitting of a G80 locking diff, and god knows what else I have't picked up on. I think in the US they got a driver's airbag and knee bolsters under the dash, too.

The really annoying thing is that when they fitted the ABS module, they moved the high beam step relay from the passenger side to the driver side of the engine bay, and changed the bracket it sits on - my relay is on the fritz, and finding a spare is proving to be the devil's own job!

If it's the same idea as fitted to Landrovers:

The proper way to reset a shuttle valve is to open a bleed valve on one circuit and press the pedal slowly until the light goes out. If it doesn't go out close the nipple and try the other circuit.

Stop pressing the pedal once the light has gone out or the shuttle will go too far and the light will come on again.

They dropped the shuttle feature at some point. My 1996 car had it, but not my 92 or 93. The octopus junction is still there, but with no shuttle. Instead there is a fluid level sensor on the master cylinder reservoir, wired up to the original warning light.

Another way of doing it is to have a switch on the brake pedal that operates a warning light when pedal travel becomes excessive. This indicates air in the system or worn/maladjusted drum brake shoes.

My belief is that many of the modifications that appeared on European models in the 240's last year were driven by a surplus of bits originally intended for the American market, as ABS appeared a couple of years previously for U.S. spec cars, and commonality with the 7/8/9 series cars, which had heated mirrors and a profusion of Torx-headed fasteners.
