Default Should I replace the fuel filter ?

Happy New Year to all,

2009 2.0D 48,000 full Volvo service until second year.

I decided that I'd do the basic stuff myself from the third service onwards, to date no problem with the running, no coughs, power loss or starting issues.
I'm aware that the filter should have been replaced on its third anniversary ( 37,500 ) so mine is still running on its original. Not wanting to ignore those potential problem what should I expect if I ignore changing the filter ? Are there tell tale signs of filter blockage? Running issues etc? I know some will say just do it but I'm just curious as to whether its necessary or just over the top. Thanks.

Andy

the only way to find out is wait for your break down , you wont get it going again either without a hand priming pump ...

it would be too late then , once you get air in the fuel filter due to restriction thats it , you stop .. I would always change my diesel filter at each service if i had a diesel .. you never know what rubbish goes in the tank each time you fill up ..

How hard is it to drain the water off the diesel fuel filter?
