diff ratios
Alright peeps,
Anyone able to tell me if 240's came with different ratios between manual & auto transmissions and which ratios they did? Trying to get as much info together and work out which ratio I have (1988 GLT Auto) and which would be best for me to whack a Gripper/Quaife Limited Slip diff in for some sideways fun! Cheers |

Yes they did, 3.31, 3.73 and 3.91:1 were the most common. Aside from the practical method (chock one rear wheel, turn the other round twice and count the number of revolutions the propshaft makes), there's supposed to be a sticker under the underseal on the rear axle:

Cheers mate! I think my sticker has disappeared so itll have to be a rear wheel chock and count.
Once Ive figured that out I can decide weather to slap a LSD in my current diff or look for a different ratio. |

3.3 are rare, I had an axle from a four speed 230KH (emission pulsair junk)engine with one of these How do I know? We used to use these axles in a V8 stockcar way back . There is a 4,1 listed, I suspect early b21a or even the pushrod B20 ? That is so bronze age, you won't find one anyway. It is no big deal to pull the cover off, slacken the Panhard rod for clearance, then off with the cover. At least you'll know which exact ratio you have , those stickers are usually missing or illegible by now There are rumours of Jeep DANA slip diffs being compatible, I have no experience of these. Good luck, Jim. |

Don't forget that you've got the range of 700/900 diffs to choose from as well....
