I'm looking forward to seeing reports of the 2wd Range Rover Evoque "drivers" getting stuck in snow drifts and having to call for a tow complaining "but it's a Range Rover why won't it go". Bet they don't have a shovel or overcoat in the boot and will be wearing high heels or dandy shoes too.

Sorry to disappoint! Norfolk has closed for the snow - it was -5 outside this morning, with 2" of snow falling onto churned up slush and snow. I walked to work this morning, mostly across fields, but I did have to cross an untreated road.

Only two cars out at 8 - a Golf GTi on unfeasibly low profile tyres and a young lad in a tshirt behind the wheel. It's a straight, flat road, but he still managed to spin it. Gunning the engine, brake lights ablaze as he slid past - i kept well back out of the way.

The second car was a 4l X5. Again, very low profile tyres, and one of those blondes in huge designer sunglasses and leather skin. She sat so low in the car you could barely see the top of her head over the bonnet. She was making slow progress, but couldn't keep a straight line. No wheelspin, but equally she didn't seem to be able to steer much.

I don't think the Golf was 4wd - since the driving styles (and results) were the same, I'd argue for 4wd making very little difference unless the driver knows how to benefit from it.

I used to have a trooper which i took onto a trading estate in the snow in two wheel drive it got stuck. Stick it in 4x4 floor the throttle and it just set off no trouble but good point about stopping everyone. Now I drive an xc70 but it rarely comes out of the garage in bad weather, I work in a city centre and its easier and cheaper to use the bus.
