Hill Start Assist not working
I have a 2012 Volvo V60. Can anybody tell me if the HSA function only works in DRIVe or should it work at all times.

Not sure if all models have a hill hold facility but in my XC60
you are in drive stop the car using the foot brake and then release. The brake then holds the car in place until you hit the gas pedal. This should only be used for a short period of time. If you put the car in neutral the brake with disengage Not sure if it as a feature on all model. Actually your post is a bit vague - what do you mean by should it work at all times?

Is yours a manual or auto gearbox? On my manual-box V60 D3, the electric handbrake releases itself automatically as the clutch bites, doesn't matter whether the 'Drive' start/stop function is engaged.

As I understand it with the auto you have to apply the footbrake with a firm push and then when you start it holds the brake for a second or so for it to go forward without rolling back

With an auto you can apply the parking brake to hold you on the hill, it will release automatically when you press the accelerator

Hsa
The HSA has nothing to do with the function that allows you to push the accelerator in order for the parking brake to disengage automatically (which only works if the driver´s seat belt is fastened). The HSA simply holds the car for a couple of seconds, when you move the foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal. This is not done by the brakes, but by the auto gear box. Thus, it only works on a car with auto.
For some reason it does not work when shifting from Reverse to Drive. It only works if the gear is in Drive before you stop /apply the brakes. Nor does it work for more than a couple of seconds, and the car will eventually roll backwards if you let it "hang" too long without pushing one of the pedals. When I stop in really steep hills, expecting to move on shortly, I like to apply the parking brake just to be sure, and help the HSA a bit. I think it wears a lot on the gear box, thus the few seconds it is able to work. Last edited by polsesnabb; Feb 8th, 2013 at 19:28. |

Going back to Hill Start Assist, does the car actually have this? Is it just a feature on autos, or just a feature in some countries?
