Default Rear bumper removal

I attempted to remove my bumper today (05 my),however I took the four screws out and the four clips along the bottom.
This is all the volvo instructions said I needed to do but it still wouldn't come off!

What did I miss, i definitely gave it a good tug.
In the end a neighbour and I managed to fit the towbar without removing the bumper......not easy but its on.

Next thing is the wiring but the cheapest I can find it is £110 so it'll have to wait till we've recovered from Christmas!

check along the rear edge of the wheel arch there should be a screw remove on each side and pull away from body slightly and this should allow bumper to slide back but support bumper so that it doesnt scrape paint work.
oops just read you managed without. should read properly first.....

I took out the 2 screws either side one at each top and one underneath.....isn't that it?
I could pull the side of the bumper out a fair way it just wouldn't slide!
I ache now!

XC70 has additional rivets that need to be replaced if the rear bumper is removed

The V70 has no rivets and can be removed and refitted with the original fittings...

Other than that I remember the process being identical for both...

Default 2005 onwards facelift s60 bumper rear removal.

i removed my rear bumper last weekend, on the 05' onwards cars this is the way to go...

1/ remove the 4 torx screws in the rear wheel arches (1 at the top and 1 underneath each arch).
2/ remove boot trim (the section which goes over your rear lock).
3/ remove battery.
4/ remove sound deadening stuck behind boot trim.
5/ you will find 4 holes in the rear panel which you will see bolts in, 13mm socket iirc **use double sided tape on your socket so you dont drop the spacers inside the rear panel**
6/ once 4 bolts removed, pull the top side of the bumper where it meets the arch out at both sides. (you will hear clicking as the clips come free)
7/ at this stage pull the bottom side section of the bumper backwards at each side. (make sure there is no mud/ crap built up behind the bumper, this will prevent you pulling it back)
8/ when the sides of the bumper are pulled backwards far enough they come away.
9/ when both sides of bumper are away from the car lift backwards and away. (best with 2 people)

the 4 plastic clips under the center rear of the bumper are for the lower skirt, these do not need to be removed. (unless your splitting the skirt away from the main bumper)

regards, paul.

Regarding the wiring for the towing electrics, Volvo do them at reasonable prices. Model specific, ready made loom, plug and play. I got a 13 pin socket/loom last week, 33 quid inc VAT from the dealer.

Got my towbar to fit now. What torque did you tighten the bolts up to?
