Default V70R AWD front brakes

I need some help please as everyone including volvo seem confused.

I am replacing the front disks/pads on my V70R AWD. The disks are 302mm so seem to be the correct ones. The pads however are a problem. Normal V70R pads will not fit in the caliper. EBC redstuff ones will. As replacing disks garage wants to replace pads.

The garage sent the EBC pads to local volvo dealer as pattern.

Local dealer says - never stocked these pads and has to do special order to get them.

New VOLVO pads will fit in caliper but are not correct for disk (the pads overhang by about 5mm on INSIDE edge of disk). The pads are 61mm accross.

Volvo thinks the car may have uprated front disks (police spec etc) but cannot confirm on build.

The disks are ATI.

Any ideas please?

Karl,

I just noticed this thread and wondered if you'd resolved the problem and if so, how?

I've noticed Stuart from SW Autos mention Police spec pads for sale. Give him a call, I expect he'll be gald to confirm the sizes. Then you may find out if the dealer is right about the discs/pads being upgraded. Also, if the dealer has your VIN number, the VADIS type system they have should be able to identify exactly the right pads. You can get them, as my discs and pads were done last year. The VIN number was essential in getting the right parts ordered.

If you (or the dealer) enter the VIN into VADIS (or VIDA isn't it called now?) it should be able to identify if yours is "police" and then show compatible part numbers. With the right part numbers I am sure volvo will be able to order, although it could take a little time if they have to come from sweden or something daft in which case S W Autos could be your best bet.

Are the 'police spec' discs any different from standard 302mm ones? If not, then presumably the pads are simply a different material and not a different size. All very strange. It would be interesting to know how it was finally resolved.
