Thats a shame Dave!

I get sentimental about all my cars. So much so that I recently bought a 1995 Volvo 850 T5 for £200 just to save it going for scrap. I dont need it and it doesnt run but I could let the poor old girl end up as bean tins. Shes only done 200k miles

Yeah it was a shame but beleive it or not i managed to buy another Amazon the same colour a couple of weeks later from a local guy for £110!! ( Remember this was back in the eighties when you could pick up an "old banger" for a few quid ). The neighbours couldn`t believe i`d had the car repaired lol!!.After that it was a 145 then a 244 then another Amazon then an 1800s. Finally ended up buying a 1990 240GL fifteen years ago from an old guy that had 19k on the clock and glad to say i`ve still got it today.
Cheers
Dave

Still going strong in Northallerton, pass it most days. Though the cargo box on top somewhat takes the edge off the lowered suspension!!!

Thanks for sharing that info Hodge!

I suspected it would have a roof box or rack on it. When he bought it he said he wanted something huge and retro to carry stuff round for his business and various carboot/market days and his Escort estate with roof box wasnt big enough.

Glad to hear the old girls still in service. I have some amazing memories of that car and Im so happy shes still earning her keep.

Hitting a pheasant was enough to write off a Ford Escort?

It didnt write it off but hitting a small solid animal in a 30 year old Ford Escort made of rust and thin metal isnt like hitting the same thing in an old Volvo. The impact was right on the drivers side headlight which subsequently smashed all the mounting points on the wing, front panel, backing bowl and the headlight.

So I took the car off the road, retired it from daily service and had it fully restored with new engine, suspension, interior and everything done.
