Question XC60 Loss of power

Hello everyone,

I am owner of 2008 XC60 equipped with D5 and manual gearbox. Everything was working fine for almost 5 years, but suddenly I am experiencing strange problem while driving. The car absolutely randomly looses power. For instance while driving on the highway it's a bit a problem to even reach 100kmh (60mph). If it happens during driving and I put the accelerator pedal to the floor with the clutch depressed, than the engine is able to reach not more than 4000 rpm. It's almost like when turbocharger is down or faulty.

The biggest problem is that the loss of power is not continuous, so the dealer was unable to trace the fault with diagnostics. Sometimes it happens after 30 minutes of driving, sometimes it's immediate after starting the engine. I noticed, that there is a common problem with the XC60's, that is often called as "limp mode". It is a problem with the DPF temperature sensor, but it's usually accompanied with a error message. However I am not getting any error messages or warning lights in my XC60, it just have a behavior of a really, really slow car.

So can someone please confirm, that this behavior is the famous "limp mode"? Will I be able to replace the sensor on my own?

Thanks.

When mine did this I had no engine management light come on.... Just a very unresponsive car!

But if you have plugged it into the interface and its not pinged a PDF sensor then you have no idea which one to replace...

Its an easy job to replace them..... But you need to know which one is pinging the error

How many DPF sensors are there? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think if its temperature sensor, than it should be measureable by ohmmeter so the wrong one could be easily identified...

This fault is really annoying. Paid for third diagnostic today and nothing... Almost like the car knew I was driving to dealers and turned off this limp mode thing.

It's really strange that the car is not saying a peep about this.
