  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default 1998 v70r white smoke when idling

Hi just noticed today that when the cars been left idling it starts to smoke white smoke its not oil it's got a sweet smell so it's got to be anti freeze ! But there's no smoke on start up and none when driving only when it's been ticking over for a few minutes then it clears when I drive again ! Any one have any ideas

Have you lost any coolant as the white "smoke" might be water vapour which is more visible in the cold weather we are currently experiancing - Mike

I checked the coolant level and its fine no milky residue in either the coolant or oil !

Just the exhaust steaming, when you burn petrol it creats a significant quantity of water (steam) this exits the exhaust, when it is cold outside the steam will show up more as the steam will condense as it hits the cold air - Mike

My S60 does it, just keep a watchfull eye on your coolant for a couple of days but it might well be this weather causing it.
