Default Warm Up Time

Whats the best time to warm up the engine in a cold morning before driving.
Will 5 mins do? Or it doesnt really matter, as long the car starts, let it warm up on the way to your destination, keeping with low revs.

You should start driving straight away, just be very gentle with it.

It is not reccomended that you just let the car sit at idle to warm up if you can help it.

as youve said, start n drive ,being gentle with the revs, wait until normal running temp is reached before using all the revs.

Yep, just drive, but I impose a 3K rpm limit until normal temp

I think it has to do with there is no air coming into the engine and parts aren't actually moving as they should.

If its at idle when cold, it'll be doing about 1,000rpm and (especially if its a diesel) will take forever to warm up. If it was about 1-5 degrees and I let my D5 idle from cold it would take about 20-25 minutes to reach temperature.

When driving, it'll reach temp in about 10 mins tops.

If you let it idle to warm up, the engine will spend more time cold which leads to more wear on the engine.
