740 STARTING PROBLEMS

I'M HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY 740 ESTATE.IT WILL START FIRST THING IN THE MORNING EVERY TIME,BUT IF I TRY TO START IT 20 MINS LATER I HAVE TO KEEP CRANKING THE ENGINE OVER FOR ABOUT 30-40 SECS AND THEN IT WILL ONLY START WHEN I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.I KNOW I SHOULDN'T USE THE THROTTLE BUT THIS IS THE ONLY WAY IT WILL START.COME NEXT MORNING,I TURN THE KEY AND IT STARTS FIRST TIME.IT WILL START IF ONLY LEFT FOR A VERY SHORT TIME.CAN ANYONE HELP? CHEERS....JEFF

It helps if you can detail exactly what car you have. Without knowing age, engine type etc its is difficult to help!

SORRY MIKE,I DIDN'T THINK!IT'S A 740GL ESTATE.1990. 1986cc.AND NO TURBO.HOPE YOU CAN HELP WITH THESE DETAILS.

Really need to go on diagnostic machine to see what's happening when hot. Quite possible that it's a faulty temp sensor and cold start injector coming in flooding it. you could try unplugging cold start injector when hot and see if this helps. There are a lkot of other possibilities though. Let us know how you get on. Best of luck!

Hi Jeff,

Have you tried another airmass meter? You can pick them up second hand very easy. Mine had exactly the same problem.
