850 Cars: - 850r standard exhaust

Have always been told that car had stainless exhaust as standard
On recent mot am told that the central pipe is leaking and needs replacement at £160 plug fitting

Have I got it wrong or has my garage?

They are indeed stainless.

Just because it's leaking doesn't necessarily mean that it's rusted through - thay are known to crack, mine did so where the main pipe meets the big silencer box in the middle of the car - it had become completely detached. I welded it very successfully though, cost me nowt but my time - oh, and I replaced the clamps too, but they were under a tenner.
