Cam belt change advice + VIDA guide
Just ordered the timing belt kit, aux belt and tensioner from RUFE.
I have 3 questions: 1) Getting the tension right. I guess it may become clear when I see the tensioner and its indicator marks but not currently clear on how to tension the belt and what allowances to make for ambient temperature. 2) As I won't be taking the crank pulley off, I'll be aligning the cams at TDC as per the timing marks, painting marks on the cam and crank pulleys AND the old belt, transferring the marks accurately to the new belt and then refitting using my timing marks and with the marks on the belt as a double-checking mechanism i.e all the tippex marks should line-up perfectly on the pulleys and the new belt 3)Has anyone got a VIDA guide please for a 2005 2.4 petrol? I read all sorts of things about rotating the crank 90 degrees past TDC and then winding it back to supposedly release pressure on the VVT??? Any other tips or advice? I'm fairly competent and do most of my own servicing but never had cause to replace a cambelt before. I'm also doing the aux belt and tensioner but that looks fairly straight forward.....unless anyone knows differently. PS...I've seen the youtube video but that doesn't really clarify the tension issue.

Hope the pdf is someway helpful, not sure if I got correct engine.
When i have done cambelts before, i count the teeth between marks as well as the precautions you stated. Do the 90 degrees & wind back, it will release any tension. Once fitted, rotate engine by crank nut a couple of times to ensure marks line up again. Good luck

It's a pretty easy job and you seem to have all bases covered, but I would check, double check and tripple check your new tensioner pulley as Volvo do use some pretty poor quality bearings in my experience.
I actually ended up pressing the old one out and pressing a decent quality bearing back in its place after about seven or eight thousand miles, as the lack of quality was bugging me!
