Default Fuel cap inscription

Just a passing query - what does it mean engraved on the fuel cap - TURN TO CLICK TO PREVENT SYSTEM FAILURE? Yeah I know it clicks when fully screwed home.

What system failure (sounds serious?) could be caused by failure to click? Is a potential loss of fuel (or evaporation of same) a system failure?

I have just fitted a locking fuel cap (Halfords) with no obvious problems, or is this Volvo just being a bit OTT?

If you have the engraved type fuel it needs to be fitted fully home, if not this can cause a depression in the fuel which will then expand and cause a couple of microns of vapour to expell into the atmosphere. It is possible then that a passing midge could breathe in this vapour which would then supercharge said midge and send it on a wild rampage. Now just supposing that a male and female midge breathe in this catostrophic leak and both of them become supercharged, then they mate, and their young then become very vicious and start to attack the fleas. The fleas will then undoubtly become infected and voraciously thirsty and extremely virile. In turn they will reproduce and produce even more infected fleas, they will quickly mutate and it wont be long before they begin attacking black rats. The black rats will become infected and it will mutate into the bubonic plague which could be disaterous for mankind. This can also make the rats reproduce quicker and some of them may (definately) eventually find their way into the power station at Sizewell. Once they start drinking the water from the cooling towers (to quench their insatiable thirst) the reactors will overheat irreversably, the consequences don't bear thinking about for the children of the planet. You have been told. On the other hand, it could be completely ok and may indeed just be Volvo going completely over the top. Hope this helps.

Smile Rats at Sizewell?

Thanks for that Jim - are you sure its Sizewell? I thought it was Dungeness where they had a rat problem!!!

Definitely not heard of Sizewell rats - think you must be wrong there!

However I have decided to get my new fuel cap engraved with the appropriate text - I know where I can get this done for just £41 inc VAT - which seems a trivial price to pay to save humanity!

Don't you have an auto locking full flap the rats can't get into????

There are rats at Sizewell. Trust me I've seen one riding a motorbike!!!! I had been into Adnams brewery beforehand I might add!

All the same it's worrying situation...........................

How about printing in whatever text you fancy the words TURN TO CLICK TO PREVENT SYSTEM FAILURE and then use, in the words of Valerie Singleton, some sticky back plastic and stick it on edge of said cap and send me £40?

Rat proof locking fuel flap????? Thats an interesting one let me check the Volvo spec on that, after all its only made of plastic and any self respecting rat is not going to let that put them off - hell not even live twin and earth is a deterent - and to get past a plastic flap to sniff the halucenogenic vapours of 100% unleaded would be no problem at all

I might take up your offer . . . . . . . . . . . . . once insanity sets in
