Hi folks,

My '05 V50 2.0D is a major money pit at the moment... I've had to change the battery, have work done on the ECU, new clutch and timing belt, along with 4 new tyres since January!!! I know most of that list is made up of consumables but still painful on the wallet.

Now it looks like the DPF needs replacing - the car won't accelerate passed 70MPH and the slightest of inclines drops it to 60MPH. Should I get a replacement from Volvo or have the thing removed? If removal do I get it done before the MOT (I can MOT from 22/5/13) or after? I know there are loads of posts regarding the removal but has anyone run without a DPF for a decent length of time?

Is there anything else I should be expecting to fail in the near future? The car has just covered 110,000 miles. I had a new sump (old one cracked) and alternator last year.

Thanks for any advice/warnings you can pass on,

Gez.

Are you 100% sure you've got a DPF? You are around the time it can have one or not.

If you do have a DPF then a DPF delete can have many advantages but be aware you will see a little more black smoke than usual on acceleration without the DPF.

There is many people on here that have long disposed of their DPF and passed through many MOT's so before or after MoT makes no difference.

Have you had your codes read? You may find your problem is not the DPF. Do you have an EOLYS tank on the rear axle? Your problem may be boost hose, vacuum pipe or intercooler/pipe related or even lack of refilling EOLYS tank.

The chassis number has the number 5 as the 8th character which I believe denotes that it has a DPF, the car is going in tomorrow to have the codes read.
