V50 Electrics : Software Update/FogLights

I've retrofitted front foglights to my V50, the loom was in place I just need to purchase and install the lights themselves, some screws, the grills and in the replaed the dashboard swith with one that had a front foglight button. But I read somwhere I need a software update to make them work from Volvo - anyone able to tell me how much this should be?

Also - on the subject of software - is it possible to program it so I get the front foglights to turn on as well as the sidelights&sidemarkers when the "follow me home lights" circular yellow button is pressed on the keyfob?

Best to contact a few dealers for the cost.

AFAIK it's not possible to do what you describe with the approach lights. Would have been a good idea but I've not heard of it done before.

Software shouldn't cost any more then £20.

And you can't do that, what VW, Audi, Mercedes and Co allow, by using the fogs for approach lights.

The software update as Daim says should not cost a lot but it is the labour charge that goes with it that does!

At a dealer you'll be looking at approx. £75 for the update to be conducted.

Rang 2 dealers and they quoted me the same price, around £53 inc vat, £13+vat is the software, the rest is labour!

You should ring back and say you have got a quote for £50 all in, can you match it. Works most times. They'll probably ask where from, just name another garage. Play them off each other.

Try & find an independant Volvo garage that can buy the software & upload onto the car.
I've just had my DRL'S disabled by an indy for £35+vat in total.

Do you know if indys can do the free updates as well I was thinking about killing two birds. Getting the my car software updated and getting the the dlr's turned off. Had 3 cars pull out on me this week must think I am flashing them.

Can't see why not. Best of contacting your local indy to see if they can provide that service.

Ha - wish I'd seen this! I was too excited to get it done so just went ahead and paid full price!
