Air bag sensor fault
Want to share my experiences in the hope I can return the favour. The forum helped alot. There is not alot of support for Volvo owners in New Zealand.
Purchased 2002 2.0T Volvo S40 T4 with airbag light on. My warrant came about to which the vehicle didnt pass. Took the vehicle to a local auto electrician. He checked and verified the fault for $100NZD. Quoted me $430 to get the part in to the country.. Asked for the part number but he didn't want to give it to me. Passanger sensor faulty. Researched the fault codes given to me and got the part number off here.http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/ Part number 30613043. Went on ebay UK and found item for $60 delivered. Item arrived withen a week. Researched where the sensor was located. * Disconnected the battery * Gently un-did the trims and eased the pillar cover off. * Unplugged the existing faulty sensor * Un-did the two hex head nuts * Installed new sensor doing up nuts and plugging unit in. The fault light was still on so I took it back to a local auto electrician who cleared the fault codes. The price to get this done ranged from $35-$70. Needless to say I was relieved when the light went off. I have since purchased of trademe.co.nz a ELM327 OBD2 for $23 which works fine with Torque (free). This would have made the experience even cheaper had I had this item sooner!! I am by no means knowledgable when it comes to cars but this enabled me to save a good amount of money. |

Glad you got it sorted. Next time, try asking in the forum if someone has the parts you need. You could have had this sensor from here for free or a couple of pounds max.
Also, I don't think that you will be able to reset the SRS light with the ELM327 OBD2

The vehicle has now developed another fault. The engine warning light came on. Hooked up my Elm327 bluetooth to my Android phone and worked straight away. Retrieved the code P0171. Managed to clear it too!
It soon came back on though. Cleaned the MAF sensor with proper MAF sensor cleaner as per youtube vids. Inspected hoses but no obvious air leaks. Tested but didn't work. The motor shudders and sputters when cold for the first start of the day but quickly warms up and drives well once warm. Any ideas anyone?? |
