Is the aeriel supposed to bend back in an arch when raised or is mine wind damaged. Also it does not fully retract but stays about 3/4 of a foot up, normal or knacked ?

Knackered I'm affraid. When it's down it should be flush with the rear wing and when up mine is completely straight. They're pretty sturdy and should cope with the wind really, might be the previous owner went through a car wash with the radio on...

There's a few people on here that have done it, I know Thanatos and OvlovS70 have so hopefully they will come along and explain what's involved. I'm not certain, but I think I read before it's not that easy to replace I'm sorry to say, I think it can be tricky lining it all up.

you can just buy the aerial insert from pfv and the way you fit itand remove the old one is simple but time consuming

undo the black crew on the wing
turn radio on
pull the screw off the aerial
the aerial then needs a 90 degree twist to get it to release
then the plastic spools out
feed the new insert
try to get it to lock by turning the radio on and off
replace nut

i went and bought a new aerial after 4hrs the thing still didn't want to lock into place

I know it would push the price up, but would it be easier to replace the whole unit rather than just the mast? I'm just wondering if you can unscrew the securing nut on the outside and then pull the whole unit down from the inside so you're not messing about trying to reattach the mast. I might be completely wrong, I've never looked at how the aerial works, just wondered if this was an option?

Hello,
I bought the mast from Volvo, about £35, it comes with instructions but missed out a key bit- there is a retaining sleeve holding the mast in. After removing the wing nut it still won't come out, owing to this sleeve.
Thantos is correct, its fiddly and best done removed from the car.
The motor part is the expensive bit.
The advantage of the Volvo mast, made in Mexico, is it has a black tip which makes it subtle when retracted.
eBay has a full after market motor/mast which isn't too expensive but no idea on quality.
I bought lithium grease for inside the housing for the toothed white plastic cord at the other end of the mast.
A good 4hrs indeed, think i'd be quicker now!
If you need any help we will be able to assist.
Cheers.
