Break lights not working on trailer

I have a v70 and all was working fine now the break lights on trailer only work with the boot open I have tried on 2 different lighting boards as soon as the boot is closed and the interior light goes out the break lights stop working any ideas please ASAP I am stuck in Spain

any chance theres a short in the wiring for the boot door? this runs along the hinges and often reported as broken in posts?

It`s likely a poor earth in the socket or wiring inside the car.

with spike on this one. likley to e a bad connection or a bad earth.
