When I bought my current C70, the drivers window wouldn't open. I tried a new switch pack and it worked perfectly for about two months but it has now stopped again.
Maybe a coincidence and the second switch pack has now failed as well but, before I buy another, has anybody experienced another problem which would cause this. The dashboard lights do dim slightly when I press the switch but I can hear nothing inside the door. The same symptoms really as before. |

Are you sure it's not the regulator playing up as that is really common on the C70? Especial if the lights go dim when you operate the switch, that would suggest the switch is working. It's strange if it's the same as before and you cured it last time with a new switch, hopefully you have just been unlucky and another switch will solve the problem, but my worry would be it's the regulator. I'm affraid I don't know how to test it to confirm if it is or isn't the regulator, but if it is you can get a regulator repair kit for about £50. Apparently it is by no means an easy job and can be a right pain to align the window afterwards, but it's better than the £1000 you will be charged to take it to Volvo!

I had thought about the regulator but I thought, with that, it would still move but very roughly. If it is, I am lucky enough to have a friend with a body shop.

Nice, that's what you need! Hope it turns out to be an easy fix for you. Sorry I can't help more

Just a quick update. I bought a brand new switch and at first it didn't work. After about a day or so, it started working and still works. I can only think that there is a bad connection somewhere.

That's good that it doesn't seem to be the regulator but I don't envy you trying to find an electrical fault. At least it's working at the moment, keep us updated if it goes again. I don't envy you trying to find an electrical fault like that though if it does stop working again, good luck.

Next time it stops working open the drivers door and wiggle the wiring where it comes through the door pillar. Mine does the same thing and having bought a new switch it turned out to be a wiring fault.

Thanks for that. I don't use the car much as I use the S60's every day, but I will try that if or when it goes again. I wouldn't mess around with electrics myself as I haven't got a clue so it would be a garage job.
On the bonus side, I now have the old switch pack which is probably ok. I don't want to disconnect the new one to try it in case it goes again but, if anybody needs a switch, PM me and you are welcome to it. |
