Default Clutch Slave Cylinder for 1989 2.0 litre 740 GL Estate?

Wonder if anyone here can be of any assistance since all parts dealers are puzzled by my request.

I am looking to source a Clutch Slave Cylinder for 1989 2.0 litre 740 GL Estate

Motor factors all show no match for the 2.0, only the 2.3 and 2.8 models. So have I got a peculiar model; is it a agent-only part, or were some 2.0 cars fitted with parts from, say the 2.3 model?

Thanks in advance

no difference, i guess. it is fitted to the bell housing, which does not depend on engine ccm-s...

problem is, motor factors say there are 3 types of slave cylinder. one of two types can be fitted to the 2.3 and a different one again to the 2.8

If it helps, mine is the one with the little black plastic cap on the piston which wears through the hole on the clutch arm (as mine has done, but parts of the cylinder seem to have dropped out when I had to finish my journey clutch-less "crash-box" style

2,0 and 2,3 have the same gearbox and the same slave cylinder may be fitted. the bell housing of 2,8 V6 and diesel is different...

Hi, there are 2 types for the 740 / 940.

1) girling type
2) FAG type.

the girling has a circlip which is internal in the cylinder and it stops the piston from coming right out.

The FAG type has a larger bore cylinder and no internal circlip so the piston will pop out when the arm goes through the lever arm.

the girling also has an adjustable piston rod as used on the 240 series.

If you can only get the girling, usually new about £45.00 make sure you get a 240 rod from the agents. this will then fit your car.

hope this helps.

regards, Keith

Thank you Keith

That is just the info I needed since the car is some 70 miles away from home at present in my mothers' garage.

Though it was dark when I got to look at the problem before borrowing my mothers car for the week I noticed the lack of circlip.

Motor factors mentioned FAG in stock so should be OK =)
