V70 ETM Issue - Help needed!

Hi All,

I have a manual 1999 V reg V70 2.5 10v 117k miles on the clock.

Yesterday I turned the car on and it idles erraticly between 1k and 2k revs - The ETS light and engine management light are on... The car only drives in limp mode.

I haven't had a chance to take it to any garages yet as it only happened yesterday afternoon... However from my research on the web it looks like I need a new ETM...

I did phone my local Volvo main dealer and they quoted £600 for the part and labour

I've also seen on the web that there are a couple of places I can send the faulty ETM to and they will rebuild it and send it back... The only problem is that I need the car working for Thursday night at the latest.

By the looks of things I can't just buy a used ETM from a breakers as it wouldn't work with my car as they are programmed to the car they are in?

I'm going to phone a few Volvo specialists tomorrow morning to see what they say.

Can anyone recommend any garages that could help? I am in Hook, Hampshire near Basingstoke.

Or any tips at all?

ask for a breakdown of that quote ,
the throttle is about £200 + vat last time i bought one a couple of months ago ( price fluctuates a lot recently )
Labour should be no longer than 1/2 hour if non turbo , maybe 1.5 hours if turbo . + a 18 minute software reload ( software about 50 p ) ask them how that adds up to £600 Your best bet is send it off for repair ..
