Thumbs down Won't start solved

Don't know if this will help anyone my S60 would not start earlier it would start then conk out straight away so I thought of fuel which there was at the engine
Immobiliser ??
After racking my brain noticed that I had 50miles till re-fuel but it was on a kerb so I pulled it off the kerb and stuck a jerry can worth of fuel in and bang it fired
Does anyone know if this is a common fault or what I can do to fix it ???

Interesting, I had my XC60 start and then cut out straight away today, I was on business in Manchester and ran onto reserve, I stopped at a Mc Donald's for a tinkle before heading to a Tesco's over the road to refuel...never had this cut out issue on starting happen before, but it certainly caught my attention...

IIRC there have been a few stories in the past of S60's which are very low on fuel not starting if they're on a slope etc, seems the fuel pickup system may not be the best designed part of the car.
