Unhappy V70 Aircon condenser

I had my aircon re-gassed early July. The usual high street job which will only really detect major leaks, any way it worked well for a while ( 5 weeks !!! ) and now failing so I had it checked over properly by air-con specialist and the problem seems to be leaking condenser - In view of need to be careful with coolant etc I dont think I should deal with it myself; I have been quoted £380 to replace the condenser and filter and re-gas the system.... does that sound a reasonable amount for the job ?

2003 V70 2.4 Auto

Thanks for any advice

Default Running some numbers.

Hello, Conversion rate: £1 = $1.60.

£380 = $608. A "value priced" condenser and drier kit from a good online outlet here goes for $150. The dimensions of the condensers offered varied.
A basic evac and refill at a service station will go for $90.
That leaves £292.50 for installation labor.

Raise the parts cost to $250 + $90 and you have £167.50 for labor.

Ask what calibre of part they use. Get a second quote. Kira

Hi,

Exactly the same happened to me, gassed in May, heatstroke in July......The garage said (the ones that gassed it) that condensor and 'a pipe' were leaking and that it would be 'about 400'.

It would have been nice if they had checked for leaks during the gassing!

Never mind, winter will soon be here!

I just had mine done after it failed last week.

Part was £73 included delivery from a breaker - 3 month guarantee.

Labour was £172 - it took a while as they couldn't get it out without removing a few other things too. That included a new aux belt too though.

My s60 had a re-gas in June but it didn't get cold so went back and they found a leaking condenser. A new condenser and re-gas in July £400.

Thank you.... Will have a think about it.... Guaranteed to make the weather turn cold if I go ahead :-) I have at least discovered that the automatic machines which most places use will detect serious leaks but not slight slow ones ( like my condenser ) so it is quite common to be re-gassed and then find the effect only lasts a month or so. Thanks for responses.

I had mine done in July too and have the same problem, can't justify £400 though so I guess sweating it out with the windows open is the only option!
