Rough acceleration and idle
Whenever I start my 940 turbo sedan, it's fine. I start driving it carefully, accelerating moderately to allow for the engine to warmup. Once the engine is warmed up, I use a little more gas for the acceleration and the car has to struggle to accelerate. While idling at a stoplight, the car occasionally does a shake like it has shivers or something. At first I thought it was my spark plugs and possibly the distributor cap. I checked the transmission fluid...it's dark blackish. I talked to my friend at an auto shop and he agreed to flush out the fluid and replace it. Only problem is that his supervisor told him that if you flush out the transmission fluid in a Volvo, that it tends to cause more problems...
Sounds interesting, any suggestions...please. -Dan 1991 940 Turbo Sedan |

RE: Rough acceleration and idle
With regard to the Auto Flush.... "TWADDLE!!!!"
The "Owners Manual" states that the Autobox fluid SHOULD be changed every 30k miles or every two years which ever comes first! Look for an Auto box Specialist, or take it to a dealer BUT GET IT DONE SOON!! As the colour of the Fluid should be Bright red not "Blackish" as you describe:-( Does the Fluid smell burnt like "Almonds" ? Is the Level correct? these are things to check also, that affect shifting. You'll notice a difference once it's been done and you'll protect the box for longer:-) Hope this helps. Regards Dave M |
