Default XC60 Windscreen wiper failure

About two miles from home last night it started to rain, selected wiper -nothing working in any position selected, but rear wiper worked ,washers worked but not main wipers. Managed to get home slowly-not recommended as visibility was not good.
Got the handbook out this morning thinking it may be the fuse, book says fuse 9 in block C is the one for windscreen wiper , well it does say in the handbook that it is advised to seek Volvo help to replace fuse and I can see why as you have to remove block A to access the fuse underneath and not wishing to break anything decided against trying to dismantle it all. Also it is one of these new type JCASE fuses of which of course I do not have a spare.
At any other time this would not be too much of a problem as tomorrow I would pop along to the local Volvo garage, but of course it is Jubilee holiday time and the garage is not open until wednesday.
As we have a very important birthday to attend tomorrow 60 miles away and of course rain is forecast I decided to ask the AA for assistance and they were very prompt in arriving. The patrol man soon had the fuse block apart and then established that the fuse was OK so I was starting to get a bit concerned thinking we would not get it fixed for tomorrow, but on disconnecting the battery and leaving the car for 5 minutes before reconnecting the wipers started working OK.
What can I say except these car computer systems leave me confused.

sounds like a latent bug, ie something which manifests itself only if a set of special circumstances occur. latent bugs can be very difficult to resolve. virtually impossible if they can't be recreated. sounds like a hard reboot sorted it. reboots revert computer systems back to their intended startup state and resolve a myriad of ills.

Just had a similar problem, lost the sensus screen completely, no radio no nothing. As its a bank holiday weekend no dealer workshops open so tried the 5 min battery disconnect - it worked only thing I had to do was reset clock and aso found that I lost 1 shot down on the windows so reset them and all ok.
P.s. in on Wednesday for sensus update so will see what happens after that

Hopefully it should go ok as my son works for a sister dealership next door and has been talking to the service manager about it and he seems confident that it will be ok even though it will be the first one they have done

Wonder if the alarm siren is ok? Had a car recently with same problem but when the siren was disconnected it allowed the wipers to receive the correct signal only a thought mind?

Default Same issue with wipers not working.

I just had the same issue with the windscreen wipers not working - pretty much identical description to DavidG. AA called and the patrol and I struggled to try and get to the fuse. We decided to give up in case we damaged the fuse holders.
He then did a search and I think found this post - so he suggested we tried a battery disconnect. Which has worked.
I now also have the problem that the door windows won't automatically go fully down or fully up (have to keep hold of the button.)
Not sure how to fix this, what did you do to reset the door window controls?

Many Thanks..

Yes thanks - saw that and tried it, the windows work properly again now.

The reset just comprised of pressing the window open button then keeping it pressed for a few seconds after the window had fully opened and then closing it fully and holding the button in the close position for a few seconds after the window had closed. Did this on each window and all appears to be OK now.

There is a separate thread on resetting the window controls but the instructions seem to vary... guess it depends on what the problem is. Anyway the above info from Whiterdesign work for me.

Many Thanks

Default Another windshield wiper issue

I have a brand new XC60, just one month old. Started the car for the 3rd time today (running errands) -- windshield wipers are on and won't turn off. The controls don't work, the fluid doesn't work; and the blinkers don't work. Turned the car off and back on several times -- and even after I got home and it had been sitting for a few hours. Suspect it's a fuse issue ... any ideas?
