Tailgate latch

I see the later models tailgate latch has this leather strap. To me it makes it easier to pull the tailgate down especially for my kids and wife.

Does anyone know if this can be retro fitted into an earlier model?

Do you know if this actually opens the tailgate from the inside as well ?

No I don't think so.

I pulled the strap and it is fixed. Inspection of the inside handle also revealed it has no locking mechanism, no moving parts.

Seems it is an option on earlier models (this is for a 08 XC90)

Only I don't know if the casing and frame needs to be changed also

Do you have to tell them your height before you qualify for one?
Being too tall I'd like anything to stop me banging my head on the tailgate, but now appreciate others maybe have different problems.
Can't win I suppose
