Thanks 200bhp - based on your experience does the click4warrantly.co.uk cover look worthwhile?
It looked quite comprehensive to me (but what do I know) - but c£550 for 3 years seems like a good deal to avoid a catastrophic problem that I can't afford myself. Russell |

But generally unless sold by a major garage that you can go and kick up a fuss at - I'd avoid all of them. |

In general I'd agree with the negative comments about aftermarket warranties, however I'm hearing very good things about Warranty Direct in as much as they do not apply any "wear and tear" policies - it seems if it's covered and it fails it gets replaced.
I know two examples recently, one where an autobox with 80k on the clock needed a new torque convertor and it was done without a murmur and another where the rear suspension on a 90k mile car was in need of some replacement bits (worn ball joint I think) and again the cash was just stumped up without a problem. The only slightly dodgy think I've heard is I know of one person with a V8 who had a head gasket go, because it was only on one bank of the V8 they would only pay to do the one gasket and not the one on the other bank too which I guess is fair enough as it hadn't gone but the owner shelled out to get the other side done for peace of mind. Cheers, John |

This is all very helpful. I'm collecting mine next week and have the same questions. I was thinking about 1yr to start with. Will go for dealership perhaps vs online - depends on cost.
Thanks |

Hello all
After reading all the trails my advice, as I found out the hard way, is to write feck on any warranty. Most cover major component failures which are most unlikely to break. When it's a smaller issue the trump card is played as a perishable item or not been serviced correctly. They use garages that they say are recommended, they mean offer to do work at warranty providers rates. Save ur cash, take any probs to Volvo dealer and have fault read ( 40 to 70 quid), look for good indie dealer or specialist repair to combat fault found. Regards |

Have to agree with all the bad points of aftermarket warranties, they are nearly all "insurance policies" with LOTS of exclusions, things like they WILL cover the bearing in the water pump, but WON'T cover the casting, likewise with alternators and other rotating electrics, if they can get out of paying, they will..
I've got a '05 model XC90 D5 SE Auto, it's just hit 205,000 miles, and had a full and comprehensive main dealer history with it when purchased @ `94k, some 6 months ago.. I've replaced an injector and the splined sleeve for the all wheel drive, but nothing else other than routine maintenance. EVERYTHING on the car works correctly, and it looks and drives like one that has covered a quarter of the mileage.... Mike |

Surprised that the original post cited 70k as high mileage for a Volvo XC90. I would be most happy with that. The '54' plate XC90 D5 I bought for my wife had 144k on clock with Volvo service up to 120k.
I then asked my trusted Indy garage to look it over. They confirmed that steering rack, Discs and pads had recently been renewed. They pointed out minor deterioration on rear rubbers; otherwise all good. To be on safe side I asked them to do Cambelt and water pump change (as detail did not prove whether done or not), replace belt tensionors, replace rear rubbers and do full service. The only item they could not do was the 'security service required' as this requires siren replacement which has to be 'matched' with car ECU using Volvo main dealer equipment. Used stealer for this. Overall, the cost was £1500 on top of car purchase (which was £5000). Now we have a great car which we have faith in and has never let us down. Which is more than I can say for my lower mileage VW Touareg! |
